I find that when people talk about saving money a lot of attention goes to how to save money on purchases, while less attention is paid on how to avoid making purchases altogether (or at least, prolong the time between one purchase and another).  Take clothes, for example: you can save more money by taking good care of your favorite clothing items than by scouring sale racks in the hopes of replacing your favorite, but worn out, clothes.  (Not that it isn’t fun to shop for new clothes, but there are probably many other things you’d like to spend your money as well, so it doesn’t hurt to save a little more money.)  To that end, if you’d like tips on how to take better care of your clothes so that they last longer, check out Clothing Care Basics: Tips for Fabric Care, Clothing Storage, and Saving Money by Julie Gallagher.  And lucky for you, it’s free right now on Amazon.   It’s an Amazon Kindle ebook, but even if you don’t own a Kindle you can still enjoy it by downloading it for free to your computer (PC or Mac), iPhone, or iPad. The instructions for doing so are included under the “Buy Now With 1 Click” button. PLEASE BE AWARE that the price is currently $0.00 but that could change at any time, so always check the price before clicking Buy Now.[It's now 99 cents].

It takes only minutes to make homemade glass cleaner, and it’s a healthier and cheaper alternative than store bought cleaners.  Adrienne from WholeNewMom gives step-by-step instructions on how to make homemade glass cleaner with ingredients that I can almost guaranty you already have in your pantry (white vinegar, rubbing alcohol, cornstarch).

Don’t forget you can also make homemade shower cleaner out of just two ingredients!

Crafty Thursdays are an ongoing feature of The Daily Citron.  I picked Thursday because it leaves just enough time for busy people to collect their supplies for doing the craft over the weekend.

Lisa from LewisvilleLove gives a step-by-step tutorial on how to make your own homemade shower cleaner.  It’s super simple to make (only two ingredients) and she swears it works wonders.  And I love that it’s non-toxic.  However, I still have two bottles of store bought cleaner to use up, so I’ll have to bookmark this idea for later.  (Is it weird to bookmark my own blog? Probably.  And does a homemade shower cleaner count as a craft for Crafty Thursday? Not sure, but I wanted to share it with you anyway.)

I never actually asked myself the question, “How do I make my own shower cleaner?” but now that I’ve found the answer, and seen that it’s quite simple and cheap to make, I’m going to have to try it out.  You should, too!
